John Williams had Green Light Laser treatment in July 2006. Mr Williams is a 61-year-old carpenter from Bournville, Birmingham.
“I had to have a catheter in for four months following radiotherapy. As a result of the radiotherapy, my urethra closed completely and I became very ill. Living for so long with a catheter was very distressing. My job is very physical and it was impossible to work. It was a completely painless experience. The night after my operation, I passed water normally for the first time in four months. I was absolutely elated. Mr Doherty told me I was fine and we went home to get back to our lives.
I was able to get back to work quickly and have had no problems at all. Green Light Laser is fantastic – I would recommend it to everyone. Knowing my brother’s experience of TURP, I don’t understand why they are still doing this operation when they have Green Light Laser which is fantastic for patients. This has got to be the way forward.”
