Birmingham Prostate Clinic results
The Birmingham Prostate Clinic is committed to providing patients with our results. We believe it is important for patients to be able to assess caseload, effectiveness and any side-effects from procedures through surgical results. We update our results on a regular basis.
Laparoscopic prostatectomy
Laparoscopic prostatectomy surgery results show the outcomes for 600 patients who have had a laparoscopic prostatectomy undertaken by our consultant urologist Mr Alan Doherty. The detailed results include post-operative continence, erectile function, operating times, measurement of PSA at 3 months after surgery and any positive margins.
Nerve-sparing prostatectomy
Nerve-sparing prostatectomy results show the outcomes for a smaller group of patients who have also had a laparoscopic prostatectomy. These patients are called index patients – they are men who are able to have optimal nerve-sparing surgery. Mr Doherty is studying the results of this group specifically to more accurately assess the effectiveness of nerve-sparing surgery. The detailed results include the same measures as those for the laparoscopic prostatectomy group as a whole.
Vasectomy reversal
Vasectomy reversal results show the patency rates for men who have had a procedure undertaken by our consultant urologist Mr Mike Foster. Our results show patency rates – this is a measure of whether sperm is present or not. Patency rates are the best measurement of the effectiveness of a vasectomy reversal. Subsequent pregnancy rates depend upon other factors, such as female fertility. Our audited results cover more than 100 procedures undertaken over the past four years.
