Advanced prostate cancer treatment
The Birmingham Prostate Clinic provides a range of new advanced prostate cancer treatments. Ahmed El-Modir, consultant oncologist for Birmingham Prostate Clinic explains: “It is a real challenge to treat advanced prostate cancer. Patients experience pain, anemia and fatigue and you really need a multi-modality treatment to meet the individual needs of each patient.”
The Birmingham Prostate Clinic offers the full range of established and new approaches including external beam radiotherapy, hormone therapy, chemotherapy for advanced disease and bisphosphonates which involve intravenous treatment every three to four weeks.
Two radioactive isotopes are available as advanced prostate cancer treatments to reduce pain and complications. They have been found to be successful in pain relief for 70–80 per cent of patients.
