Mr Alan Doherty, Consultant Urologist, Birmingham Prostate Clinic

The Birmingham Prostate Clinic has been Highly Commended by the Health Service Journal for our innovative results centre.

Our live prostate cancer surgery results centre was a finalist in the ‘Enhancing Healthcare with Data and Information Management’ category 2012 awards.

The Health Service Journal awards are highly regarded, attracting more than 1,000 entries this year.

BPC’s live prostate cancer surgery results centre was the only finalist to be Highly Commended by the judges, who were impressed with our accessible, continuously updated results system.

There were seven other finalists in our category and the award was won by NHS London.

Mr Alan Doherty, BPC consultant urologist who conceived the original idea for the results centre, received the award at a ceremony in the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, together with 1,400 leading figures from healthcare throughout the UK.

Mr Doherty said: “It was really pleasing to receive this recognition of what we are doing with our results centre; that we are striving to provide patients with information about outcomes in a significantly new way.

“I was delighted to attend the HSJ awards and receive this accolade alongside so many other very positive and innovative developments in healthcare.”
