GreenLight laser treatment testimonial – Glyn Wootton

“GreenLight laser was a relief in every way. There was nothing more than a degree of soreness immediately after the operation, but it didn’t confine me in any way.”
Glyn Wootton, GreenLight laser patient

Glyn Wootton had GreenLight laser treatment in September 2006. The operation successfully treated a painful infection which Mr Wootton had endured for two years.

“I developed an infection while being treated for a lymphoma. I was then left for a full two year period on antibiotics Ciprofloxacin, which kept the infection, Pseudomonas, at bay but did not eradicate it. If I came off the antibiotics, I was left in terrible pain.

“But being on Ciprofloxacin for so long meant I suffered side-effects including fever and pains in my muscles and joints. It was really getting me down. At that stage, my GP suggested I should go to the Birmingham Prostate Clinic.

“Mr Doherty had numerous tests carried out and came to the conclusion that the dreaded Pseudomonas was ensconced in my prostate in such a way as to prevent the antibiotics from making a full frontal attack on the bug.

“I knew about the TURP operation from a previous stay in hospital. It looked miserable, seeing tubes carrying blooded urine as the patient recovered slowly in hospital. I wasn’t apprehensive about GreenLight laser being a new procedure – I had certainly been through a lot worse and wanted to get rid of the infection.

“GreenLight laser was a relief in every way. There was nothing more than a degree of soreness immediately after the operation, but it didn’t confine me in any way. I was able to get up and move around quite comfortably – no catheter, no tube, no bag.

“In total, I was in hospital for 28 hours and my prime objective has been achieved – I am clear of the dreaded infection and have had my prostate opened up. I have had no reason to return to hospital or to see my GP. Two for the price of one. I now live my life normally.

“I remember how my father lived in dread of the prostate operation, knowing that he would need to have surgery one day. Altogether this has got to be the type of prostate operation you want – there is literally nothing to it.”
