CyberKnife treatment for prostate cancer is now available at Birmingham Prostate Clinic

“The CyberKnife provides a wholly new level of accuracy, which means we can concentrate the treatment given each time at a much higher dose. So with the CyberKnife, treatment is completed in just five sessions, compared with the usual 37 for prostate cancer radiotherapy.”
The Birmingham Prostate Clinic is offering CyberKnife treatment for prostate cancer outside London for the first time.
The advanced technology, which is a form of radiotherapy, is an established treatment for prostate cancer in many parts of the world, but until this year, has only been available in London.
However, a CyberKnife robotic system is now installed at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. Several BPC consultants have their NHS practice at the hospital and we are able to offer BPC patients access to the CyberKnife on a private patient basis.
Ahmed El-Modir, BPC consultant oncologist, who has treated prostate cancer patients using the CyberKnife, says: “This technology is really significant, with many benefits for patients and I am very pleased that it is now available for our patients.
“The CyberKnife provides a wholly new level of accuracy, which means we can concentrate the treatment given each time at a much higher dose. So with the CyberKnife, treatment is completed in just five sessions, compared with the usual 37 for prostate cancer radiotherapy.”
