HIFU prostate cancer treatment testimonial – Andrew Pearce
Andrew Pearce* decided HIFU prostate treatment was the best option for him after being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2007. The minimally-invasive operation was so successful that Andrew was able to go back to work the day after the procedure.
“When I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, I discussed all the options with Mr Doherty. He was very clear about the advantages and disadvantages of the different treatments and the fact that you have to make the right choice for yourself.
“I chose HIFU because it is the least intrusive treatment and most likely to give me the results I wanted. It was important to me that HIFU offered minimal pain, a very short hospital stay and less problems with erections and urinating after the procedure.
“To be honest, I felt strong and well enough to home straight after the procedure but stayed in hospital over night to be on the safe side. There wasn’t any pain at all – I just felt a bit tired.
“I went home the next day and went straight back to work. I am freelance and was able to work less hours from home to start with, but I was able to get straight back to normal.
“I was urinating normally within two weeks and I haven’t had any problems with erections after the procedure. It was definitely the right choice for me – I can’t see any downside. I can play golf for four hours without ever having to worry about needing the toilet – it hasn’t affected my life at all.
“I will have further tests at three monthly intervals. With HIFU, it is possible that you may need to have further treatment and the procedure can be repeated without any problems. Having been through the procedure once, I wouldn’t worry about having it again.
“The most important factor for me was having a quick recovery time and for that reason I would certainly recommend HIFU.”
